Nizar Kabbani (1998)
Summary: A short message by Majida mourning the famous Arab poet Nizar Kabbani
You leave, and my heart declares its mourning, and it lowers all of its flags, and on the steps of your poetry my song cries; my song that’s fallen from the balconies of your pinkish palace, and all the fiery butterflies withdraw from me. And all the golden swallows leave me, those that, one happy day, were crowding in your poems that I’ve sang.
What is it that has fallen in me? It’s like I’m the footstep without a road... like I am the sea in most its danger. Where is my lighthouse that I have fought bravely to reach, and declare my victory?
How depressed I am now as I hold all of this emptiness and all of this break, and all of this sad sadness upon you. Majida whom you said once is similar to you in your depths; her depth is melted and has lost all the directions. And how could she reach your peak, and your peak is now way above the clouds?
How could she present her condolences to your family who will never see any condolences after yours? And to which lighthouse, after yours, she’ll deliver the “Jasmine necklace”?
O Sir... Till we meet upon the paths of mercy, would you please accept my deep loyalty to your memory?
